If your PC crashes and you haven’t backed up your data externally, the files can be gone forever. If they’re backed up online, however, you’ll always be able to retrieve them. It’s extremely safe too when done with one of the many trusted and reliable backup services.

To say that the world has been revolutionized by the technology of the personal computer would be an understatement. Personal computers change the way we do business, they change the way we interact with people, and for all intents and purposes, personal computers have completely remolded the way we live. Personal computers still have their pitfalls however, and one of the most dangerous things that can happen to a PC is the failure of a disk drive. When it comes to computer hardware, pretty much anything is replaceable and almost all of the parts in a PC are dirt cheap.

Doing server installs got me thinking about RAID configurations and the different setups and reasons behind using each different configuration. From a business stand point most companies just trust their IT technicians to use the best suited configuration for their business, without actually understanding the reasoning behind the RAID setup. Sometimes we are given system specs from our clients which include the required RAID setup although having done some of these installs I am still not convinced that they fully understand why the setup has been used.

Having a hard drive crash or some other form of memory (such as a flash drive or CD) stop working can be a source of significant stress and frustration. A common reaction is to assume the worst: “oh no! All my years of data and work is gone! I’m ruined!” It can be even worse if it is a business application and the data that was lost contains client information or proprietary software, for example.

The majority of people in this country now use personal computers in both the workplace and / or at home. What is amazing, however, is how many people keep all of their personal and financial information on a computer. The majority of these people also unwittingly put their data at risk. Hard drives have an average useful life of only a few short years, and it can be unpredictable as to when a hard drive will fail. Some drives fail within months due to manufacturer defects and some drives will last ten or more years.
