Almost all businesses need a health and safety manual. This document would be the basis for the course of action that staff and employees need to follow in cases of emergency, or even just during normal daily operations, to ensure their welfare and that of their customers. To begin with, most local laws would require a business to submit a health and safety program before it is granted permission to operate. The granting of business permits, sanitation permits, and the like are dependent on the satisfactory completion by a business owner of the health and safety requirements of the local city government.

Many business owners may not know yet but the law requires companies with at least five or more employees to develop a written health and safety policy, and to effectively enforce it in their workplace. No matter how small an enterprise may be, health and safety should be a priority in the office and job site. This is not only for the welfare of the employees, but for the company’s customers and clients as well.

Local and government laws mandate that businesses come up with a clear health and safety policy encompassing all daily operations in the workplace and in job sites. As one could imagine, a health and safety policy is very important especially for businesses that present occupational hazards, such as those in construction, surveying, mining, engineering, manufacturing, and the like.

A health and safety program is an indispensable part of almost any type of business today. It is a strict requirement of most city or municipal laws. Companies would not be granted certain types of permits to operate or carry out business if a health and safety program is not submitted to the proper government agencies. This is an important measure to ensure the safety and welfare not only of the company’s workers and employees, but of the general public as well, including the company’s customers and clients.

Companies with at least five or more employees are mandated by law to come up with a clear, written health and safety policy. In some jurisdictions, this is an actual requirement before businesses are awarded the necessary permits to start operations. Thus, it is very important for business owners to draw up their own health and safety policies and procedures. Such a document would signify their commitment to the welfare of their employees, no matter how small their company is.

Health and safety management has typically centred around the employer’s compliance with the Health and Safety in the Employment Act. However, only minimal conditions are met by the routine hazards verification, emergency procedures and other compliance requirements.
