A Druid lives in Arizona, pretending to be twenty-one years old, while he is actually twenty-one centuries old. He is threatened by witches and assisted by werewolves, all of whom also appear, on the surface, as normal people. He meets otherworldly creatures who help him in his fight against the evil Celtic god.

Nerburn’s story is a fictionalized account based on real events that captures the attention of the reader as we learn the plight of Indians today fighting to accept the horrors of their past. An Indian elder, Dan, searches for a sister lost years earlier at one of the government schools set up to educate the youngsters, which meant brainwashing them to lose and forget their traditional ways.

An invitation from Ace Reid to come for a visit to find if they were compatible to work together was the start of this book. Author John R. Erickson’s the three-day visit to the Draggin’ S Ranch outside of Kerrville, Texas turned into three-week and then three months.

I must confess that two things which I have loved are t western films and books of that turbulent period referred to as the ‘wild west’ in American history of the 19th century. This was a period that created legends of its own in the shape of Doc Holiday, Billy the Kid and a host of other characters. One writer who brought that period alive was Zane Grey.

I am impressed with Hearne’s knowledge of magic. As with the first book in this series, Hounded, this fantasy, is intriguing as the hero, a 2000 year old Druid living in present day Arizona, fights evil forces.

O.K. This one follows rayon, Harry, and the girlfriend about one year after Pronto left off. Basic back story is that in Pronto, Raylon took it upon himself to save Harry and girlfriend.
